The gruesome and brutal murder of two grass root workers of BJP in Purulia district of West Bengal in India, is utterly shocking but not entirely unexpected in the reign of TMC chief minister Mamata Banarjee. She and her party are not able to digest the increasing influence of BJP in rural Bengal, demonstrated by unprecedented success of BJP candidates in the recently held panchayat polls in the state. The present TMC government in West Bengal has surpassed the violent legacy of communist role. The undemocratic and intolerant attitude of the governing party has become clear from the provocative statement of Trinmool MP and chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee to ensure a zero-opposition panchayat at Purulia.
OFBJP (UK) mourns this tragic loss of two young lives, sympathise with the families of martyred BJP workers and stand in solidarity with BJP unit of West Bengal in democratically protesting against the ruling party and supports the demand of CBI enquiry in the incident. The CBI of state police under the influence of ruling party would only try to destroy the evidence and mislead the investigations.
